Shooting Day 1 (Photos Part 2 and analysis of shooting day)

As this was our first shooting day, we had to get used to the equipment we were using for our coursework, we used a camera and tripod to film the scenes so when the scenes were filmed, the camera was still and easy to film. We used a boom and a sound recorder to record the sound during the filming to create clearer sounds in the scene incase the camera didn't pick up some of the sounds. Even though the boom we used was smaller than most booms, it was still heavy to hold for a long period of time and unfortunately for the person holding it for the whole day; had a very sore arm the next day! Next time, it would be better to swap around when it comes to using the equipment and that also means everyone in the group has an oppertunity to use all the equipment. This shows the more non-showbiz and gruling side to media.

We used the dungeon underneath the school hall to film the later scenes in our film opening. This was a perfect location for us because it created a good mood for the scenes and looked like a place the man would trapped in from the psycho. Setting up the scene was not too bad as the dungeon was relatively empty and we only needed to clear a few things before being able to start shooting. Setting up the lighting was pretty easy as we were given coloured gels to set the mood and a photography lamp was already in the room and created shadow which meant that it gave a more tense atmosphere in the scene. Make up was also easy to make as we only needed a few ingredients to make the fake blood and face powder was used to make the actor pale, the consistancy of the fake blood made it easy to put on to the actor and was also easy to get off at the end of the day as it was only ketchup mixed with food colouring!

The main problem we had during filming was that it took a long time to shoot lots of different shots so when it came to editing we had a choice of which shot we wanted to use. At the start of the day the whole group thought that we would of been able to film the whole of the dungeon scenes within a couple of hours. However, this was not the case and took much longer than expected and means that we will have to come back to the dungeon to film more shots. There isn't really a sudden solution to this problem because if we try and shoot shots more quickly then the filming quality may not be as good and this would show during the editing stages. Next time, we would just make sure we know the time scales of the filming so then we are more prepared for how long the filming could take. Yet this happens to everyone including hollywood film directors where they would film until the shot is perfect so at least we were not alone when it comes to this problem.

Apart from that, there was not many problems during the filming so generally it was a successful first shooting day!
